A wooden fishing pier and octagonal pavilion where Baywatch and The Last Song both shot, with raised beach cottages and a black and white lighthouse behind it.
What Tybee Island looks like
Cottages sit on flat, sandy lots close to the beach. Some are raised on wooden piers, with the space underneath left open for parking. Older ones along run a single storey, with pressed tin roofs and wraparound porches facing the street. Newer houses nearer the water run two storeys, a porch stacked above a porch under a shared metal roof.
Streets run on a grid down to wooden walkways that cross the dunes to the sand. , a former coastal artillery post at the north end of the island, keeps about seventy of its buildings from 1898 onward. Gun batteries and barracks are now houses and a small museum around the black and white .
The stands at the south end of the beach, an octagonal building rebuilt in 1996 with arched openings on every side and a smaller, shaded fishing dock beside it on matching supports. A plaza with a traffic circle sits in front of the pavilion, ringed by palms planted in the sand.
, a small brick building with a round stained glass window over its door, sits inland on Jones Avenue. , now the city hall on Butler Avenue, is a single storey brick building with 1887 and 1987 carved into its pediment.
Shot in Tybee Island
Baywatch closed the pier and part of the beach in 2016 to rig a motorcycle scene, with Zac Efron riding along it. Cobra Kai staged a karate fight sequence underneath the pavilion in its second season.
The Last Song, 2010
The pier and pavilion
A bonfire scene beneath the pier has Marcus, Blaze's boyfriend, making a pass at Ronnie. A carnival and seafood festival were staged by the pavilion for another sequence, and the volleyball courts in front of it are where Ronnie watches Will play in an earlier scene.
What Tybee Island can double for
Folly Beach in Folly Beach, South Carolina
Folly Beach has the same run of wood frame beach cottages raised on piers, with the ground floor left open for parking. Its own fishing pier got a covered platform in the 1990s. Its platform is wider and rectangular rather than octagonal. The houses lean toward modern craftsman detailing in wider shots. Try searching raised beach cottages now.
Wrightsville Beach kept a run of elevated wood cottages from the same years, with double tier wraparound porches stacked over open ground floors. Its cottages run two full storeys rather than one. The porches wrap the whole front rather than a single bay, which shows in a wide shot. Try searching elevated wood cottages now.
