What St. George looks like
St. George sits on Staten Island's north shore, where climbs the hill above the ferry slips past delis and small apartment buildings. After the 1898 consolidation of New York City, St. George became the borough's seat of government, replacing Richmond Town inland. opened in 1906 at 10 Richmond Terrace, designed by Carrere and Hastings in brick and limestone. Its clock tower is visible from the harbor. The murals inside show thirteen scenes from Staten Island history, painted by the local artist Frederick Charles Stahr. The same firm designed the next door, completed in 1919 with a temple front and a wide flight of steps rising to six Corinthian columns. It also designed the branch of the New York Public Library a block away.
Richmond Terrace continues past the civic buildings to , where the Staten Island Ferry and the Staten Island Railway both end. A little farther north, sits right on the waterfront. The minor league ballpark finished in 2001 with a retractable center field batter's eye, so fans can see the Manhattan skyline over the outfield wall. A memorial called , engraved with the names of Staten Islanders lost on September 11, stands nearby along the water.
Up the hill on Hyatt Street, the has been open since 1929. It opened with 2,800 seats behind an ornate terra cotta front.

St. George's civic waterfront has gone in front of cameras several times, almost always as itself.
Working Girl, 1988
Mike Nichols shot the first and last scenes of the 1988 film Working Girl aboard the Staten Island Ferry. Carly Simon's 'Let the River Run' plays over the Manhattan bound commuters, and the song won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The films How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Spider-Man Homecoming (2017) both used the same ferry crossing.
School of Rock, 2003
The 2003 film School of Rock filmed its finale concert scene on the 's stage. The television series Gossip Girl used the same stage for an opera scene in a 2009 episode, and the NBC series Smash filmed there during its 2012 season.
The King of Staten Island, 2020
The film The King of Staten Island came out in 2020 and shot scenes at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. During an actual Staten Island Yankees game, the production also shot at this ballpark, then called Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
