Filming in Central Eastside, Portland

Brick warehouses sit under the Morrison and Hawthorne Bridge viaducts, and NBC's Grimm shot a chase and a drug deal at the storage warehouse on SE Morrison Street.

SE Morrison Street running east under the Morrison Bridge viaduct, concrete piers and steel girders overhead, a shipping container and a rail crossing signal along the curb.

What Central Eastside Industrial District looks like

Produce Row runs along , the district's two loading dock streets. Both cross under viaducts for the Hawthorne and Morrison Bridges, where the concrete overhead cuts deep, cavern like gaps into the street. A railroad crossing signal still marks a spur track crossing 2nd Avenue near the Morrison Bridge.

Most of the surviving warehouses run one to four storeys, in brick or concrete, with large steel sash windows and flat rooflines. The at 1001 SE Water Avenue is a four storey, U shaped warehouse from 1924, its ground floor now home to a restaurant. Faded painted advertising for old garages and storage companies still covers brick side walls elsewhere in the district.

The at 215 SE Morrison Street dates from 1911, its entrance sitting directly under the Morrison Bridge viaduct. The on SE Taylor Street is from the same period. still runs out of one of the oldest produce distribution buildings on the West Coast, its loading dock facing 2nd Avenue.

Roll up loading bays and single storey garage buildings sit beside the taller warehouses, some now used for storage or auto repair rather than freight. Parking lots and loading areas take up much of the ground level, and through traffic on the loading dock streets stays light.

What Central Eastside Industrial District can double for

West Bottoms in Kansas City, Missouri

West Bottoms is a historic warehouse district built in the early 1900s around its stockyards and rail yards, and its brick high rise buildings sit close in scale and material to Central Eastside's warehouses. Many now hold antique shops and galleries behind largely unchanged facades, the same kind of reuse visible along SE Morrison Street. West Bottoms sits under elevated interstate ramps much like the bridge viaducts here, though its stockyard blocks run larger in places, so tighter street level frames read closest to Portland. Try searching brick warehouse district now.

SoDo in Seattle, Washington

SoDo sits inside Seattle's Industrial District, where original warehouse buildings stand beside ones carved into artist lofts and galleries, a similar mix of untouched and adapted brick and concrete warehouses. Light manufacturing and warehouse style retail continue further south along First Avenue. SoDo runs flatter and wider between buildings than Central Eastside's tighter bridge underpasses, so frames close on a single block hold the comparison best. Try searching warehouse district now.

Fulton Market District in Chicago, Illinois

Fulton Market served warehouse and meatpacking industries through much of the 20th century, and its landmarked brick buildings still carry loading docks facing the street. Much of the district has since filled in with hotels and offices, so only its older blocks hold the comparison. Frame away from the newer glass towers nearby, since Fulton Market has gentrified further than Central Eastside and reads busier in wide shots. Try searching brick warehouse loading docks now.
