The buildings in Soho sit on narrow plots, four and five storeys, with a bar or a restaurant at street level and offices or flats above.
Most of the streets were laid out in the 1670s and 1680s over old field boundaries, and the plots have kept their widths since. still has the brown brick houses John Meard put up in 1732, and the eastern half of it is one lane of granite setts.
The roads around Soho are all much later than the streets inside it. Regent Street was finished in 1825 and separated it from Mayfair. Shaftesbury Avenue went through in 1884 and Charing Cross Road in 1887. Apart from Oxford Street, every road on the edge of Soho is a nineteenth century improvement. The grid inside them was left alone.
took in traders who moved out of Seven Dials while Shaftesbury Avenue was being built. There had been a market on it since at least 1842 and stalls still go up on weekdays.
became the address of the film trade after 1918. Post production is still here, usually on an upper floor over a shop.
Road closures come from Westminster and take months to arrange. Edgar Wright's team gave three months notice for the ones on Last Night in Soho. Wright says the only quiet hours are between three and half past seven in the morning.

The long shot of Jack driving Sandie through a 1965 Soho was staged on . Period signage went up along the fronts overnight, and the same dressing continued round into Bateman Street for the turn toward the theatre entrance on Greek Street. Ronnie Scott's has been at number 47 since 1965 and is on the left going north.

Eloise first sees the silver haired man in a doorway at 88 , which is a stationer with a restored Georgian front. The red phone box she looks through was brought in for the shot. Matt Smith was working here the night the production closed the street, and people he knew came out of the Groucho Club at number 45 and asked him for a drink.

Eloise and John come off a bus on Shaftesbury Avenue, run up Rupert Street and then cut from into Bourchier Street in the rain. It is a service alley about the width of one building, with roller shutters and back doors along both sides.
What Soho can double for
Soho can stand in for the West End after dark and a street of small offices over shops.
